Our meeting point will be in one of the most iconic places in Pontevedra, in front of the Ruins of San Domingos and the beautiful and stately avenue, surrounded by some of the administrative palaces that best represent the rebirth of the city after being named provincial capital.
We'll continue the tour to the heart of Pontevedra, its impressive historic centre. The first thing we'll see is the Basilica of Santa María la Mayor, a symbol of the power of the seamen's guild and the city's port power centuries ago. Next, we'll check out the medieval ruins of what was once Galicia's main port for loading and unloading.
Our tour continues along the banks of the beautiful Lérez River, where you'll be delighted by the views of the Burgo Bridge, the oldest in the city and around which the current Pontevedra emerged. After this, we'll arrive at one of everyone's favourite places, the Municipal Market. If the Rías Baixas are known for something, it's their cuisine.
From here, you'll find some of the most charming squares in Pontevedra, all named after the old trades that took place in them: Plaza da Pedreira, Plaza da Leña, and Plaza da Verdura. Of course, we can't leave out the Plaza do Teucro, one of the most elegant in the city, full of local heraldry representing many of the great houses of yesteryear.
Next, we'll check out Plaza de la Herrería, one of the largest, liveliest, and greenest squares in the city, where the Gothic Convent of San Francisco presides over a beautiful camellia garden.
We'll wrap up our tour at the Church of the Pilgrim, a symbol of the city and a meeting point for pilgrims on the Portuguese Way to Santiago.
