If you´re planning to visit the highlands of Guatemala, Cobán must be on your list. Las Verapaces is a region full of nature, caves, rivers, flora & fauna, and many other natural attractions, but is also full of culture and traditions. This cultural tour will bring you close to the indigenous people of this location, get to know its people and the post-conquest history.

The importance of Coban can be traced back until the year 1530. The region is known as “Verapaces” which means “Place of real peace” due to the pacific conquest of the people through religion. We´ll start this tour with the right foot by taking you to the most important buildings, the central plaza, the biggest mall in the area, and an important museum that tells the history of its ancestors through their traditional clothing.

CENTRAL PARK: We´ll start this wonderful tour by going to the central plaza of Coban where the government palace, the cathedral, and other important attractions are around. This is the heart of the town, where the local fair takes place, and is the starting point if you want to go anywhere else. In the plaza, you will see a kiosk with unique architecture and a 360° view used in special events by the Mayor, musicians, among others. Visit the statue of Manuel Tot: an independence hero, the clock tower, and the government palace. The visit to the history museums and the central market will be the icing on the top to make this experience something hard to forget.

MUSEUM OF LAS VERAPACES: We´ll learn about the history of Las Verapaces. The departments of Las Verapaces were known as "Tezulutlán" in the past as it is the only place in Guatemala where the Spanish Conquest took place peacefully through religion. Find photographs of the old years of Cobán, see their traditional customs, and discover the cultural heritage of the area. This is a place that can't be missed. Handicraft Market (Mercado de artesanías): Have the opportunity to remember this wonderful trip over and over again with a Mayan souvenir.
