Keep your eye out for exciting humpback behaviours during this time, such as tail slaps, breaches, and playful surface activity. The 'au'au Channel, a shallow and sheltered stretch of water between Maui and its neighbouring islands, is a renowned gathering place for Pacific humpback whales each winter as they migrate from Alaska to mate, give birth, and nurture their young. Here, the water goes from shallow to deep and back very quickly, offering ideal conditions for them.
