Overview

Spectacular views, an idyllic, crystal clear mountain lake, and German history from the Middle Ages to the infamous Nazi rule during the 3rd Reich: all this and much more awaits you on this private full-day PANORAMA-Tour with your personal and professional guide. Starting with a drive that offers many scenic highlights, you will then be enchanted by the historic town of Berchtesgaden - finally the cruise across Lake Königssee to the renowned peninsula of St. Bartholomä will simply take your breath away!

Enjoy the view from the spectacular Eagle's Nest view point (Shuttle busses from May - Oct), then gain a deeper understanding of the tragic history of the Obersalzberg area.

Almost 1,000 m/ 3,200 ft above sea level, this plateau was confiscated by Hitler and his entourage as the 2nd seat of government. Some buildings from this period as well as the extensive bunker network are still partially preserved and open to the public – explore these and much more hidden vestiges from the '3rd Reich' together with your guide, supported by historical photographs.

On a nearby Panorama Road we reach in our comfortable and new VW-Minivan the highest point of our excursion, which is at the same time a 'Sound-of-Music' Film location. With these unforgettable impressions we return back to Munich.

Activity itinerary

Maria Ramersdorf Kirche (Pass by)

All of the sights mentioned here are carefully selected recommendations. Since you have booked this tour as a private tour, we are happy to accommodate additional requests as far as possible. Please also note the following point 'Additional Info'. ... but now: look forward to a wonderful tour and rest assured that you are in the best hands of your friendly and professional guide, who will take you on an eventful, informative, yet relaxing trip in our luxurious minivans. ...At the old pilgrimage church of St. Maria Ramersdorf from the 14th century, we leave Munich and drive southeast on the Autobahn A8...

Irschenberg (Pass by)

Soon we reach the 'Mount Irschenberg', the most beautiful view point that you can have from a German motorway. This Motorway route was built in the mid-1930s as a "panoramic motorway". These today unusual routings were part of the National Socialist propaganda: the beauty of the landscape was abused by deliberately staging "German Homeland".

Lake Chiemsee (Pass by)

A little later, after another magnificent view, we reach the largest lake in Bavaria, lake Chiemsee. On its shore was Germany's first highway rest stop, whose partially still visible buildings were used by the US Army as a recreation centre until 2003 after the war.

Königssee

  • 15m
In the midst of beautiful alpine scenery and not far from the Königssee Ice bobsleigh track offers the popular pedestrian zone in the village of Königssee and on the waterfront inexpensive shopping and great photo opportunities.

Pilgrimage Church of St. Bartholomew

  • 2h
  • Admission ticket not included
No road, not even a path, goes around the 8 km/5 mile-long Königssee, which is surrounded by high rock walls – even the popular destination on the west shore, the peninsula with the famous pilgrimage chapel of St. Bartholomä and the former hunting lodge with its idyllic beer garden, can only be reached by boat or via a steep trail. Experience the famous echo of lake Königssee on the impressive 35-minute boat trip and marvel at the longest continuous rock wall of the Eastern Alps, the feared 'Watzmann Ostwand', and a 'sleeping witch'! ***** Königssee Boat Trip SKIP-THE-LINE Tickets including approx. 40 minutes stopover on the peninsula (2026): Adults: €23.40 Children (6 - 17 years): €11.70

The Eagle's Nest

  • 2h
  • Admission ticket not included
You can reach the Eagle's Nest (in German: 'Kehlsteinhaus') on a 15-minute ride with spectacular views on special buses from the Obersalzberg terminal. The building, sitting in a spectacular location over 1,800 metres (6,000 ft) above sea level, was constructed on the orders of Martin Bormann—including the 6.5 km access road—in just 13 months under mostly very difficult conditions for the workers. From the mountain bus terminal, you pass through a 124-meter-long tunnel to the original lift, which takes you another 124 metres up to the Eagle's Nest, now operating as a restaurant. On a short historical tour, you'll see, among other things, the famous open fireplace made of red marble, a gift from Mussolini to Hitler. From the restaurant terrace, it only takes about 5 minutes to reach the summit cross, from where you get breathtaking views of the Eagle's Nest and the surrounding mountains. ***** SKIP-THE-LINE tickets (2026) - Bus ride including lift and access to the Eagle's Nest: Adults: €34.70 Children (6 to 14 years): €17.20

Überreste des ehemaligen Berghof

  • 25m
The darkest chapter of Berchtesgaden's history took place on the Obersalzberg, a plateau at almost 1,000 metres between Berchtesgaden and the Eagle's Nest. Under Hitler and his entourage, it was declared a restricted area from 1933 onwards. On April 25, 1945, 1,300 bombs destroyed almost the entire site, with only a few places spared, including the Eagle's Nest and Albert Speer's villa and studio. In 1952, the ruins of most of the bombed buildings were removed or demolished; some of them, like the Hotel Türken, were rebuilt. Your guide, supported by historical images, will show you the remains.

Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg

  • 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Learn more about the 12-year reign of terror of the Nazis in Berchtesgaden in the Obersalzberg documentation, and visit a part of the extensive bunker complex that has been opened to the public. For visitors with a ticket to the Eagle's Nest, admission is free, otherwise €4.50/adult (2026). Audio guides are available for free. You have about 30 minutes available, which is enough for visiting the bunkers. If you need more time, for example to visit the rest of the exhibition, this can be arranged on request.

Berchtesgaden

  • 25m
First mentioned in a document at the beginning of the 12th century, the former monastery foundation 'Berthercatmen' experienced an economic upswing thanks to the free mining on salt and metal. Today, the market town embedded in the overwhelming Berchtesgaden Alpine world is rightly one of the most popular holiday regions in Germany due to its abundance of sights! Enjoy the the traffic-restricted historic town centre with its delightfully painted houses and numerous shopping opportunities. The local brewery "Hofbrauhaus Berchtesgaden" is an ideal place to take a break. You will also see the surprisingly huge central station (opened on 1 February 1940) and the tunnel portal of the planned new railway line to Salzburg. Also from this unspeakable period come the "Little Reich Chancellery", as well as the residences of Wilhelm Keitel and Alfred Jodl.

Berchtesgaden Salt Mines

  • 1h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
(ON REQUEST): Enjoy a tour lasting over an hour in Germany's oldest active salt mine. A mine train takes you to the salt fields inside the Obersalzberg. On spectacular slides, you reach the deeper levels, and on a raft, you glide over the mysterious "Mirror Lake." Learn from your miner guide how "white gold" has been mined here since 1517 – a fascinating experience for both young and old! We recommend sturdy footwear and plenty of warm clothing (upon check-in, you will receive a mandatory protective suit for free). The salt mine maintains a constant temperature of 12 degrees Celsius (53.6 degrees Fahrenheit) year-round. ***** SKIP-THE-LINE Tickets (2026): Adults: €26.50 / Children (4-16 years): €13.50 *****

Rossfeld Panoramastrasse

  • 25m
  • Admission ticket not included
The construction of this scenic panoramic road began in 1938 and was completed in 1955. At the highest point, 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above sea level, you can cross the Austrian border on foot. The final sequence of the film 'Sound of Music' was filmed on a mountain ridge above the Panorama road. Cosy mountain inns offer regional and international specialities, with spectacular views included for free! The flat toll fee (not included in the travel price) is €10.00 (2026).

Salzburg

  • 1h
(ON REQUEST): Just about a 1/2 hour drive from Berchtesgaden, you'll find one of the most beautiful cities in Europe: Salzburg, the city of Mozart and for many fans also the 'Sound of Music' city! On an approximately 50-minute old town walking tour with your guide, discover all the historic sights (many of which were also filming locations for the Sound of Music film). If you want to invest more time (see below), you can, for example, visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress or other attractions that we can reach by car, such as Hellbrunn Palace with its overwhelming & unique trick fountains and/or the Sound of Music gazebo, or the gardens of Mirabell Palace. ***** Package PRICES a) or b) for a professional city tour of Salzburg including parking fees – the prices apply to your entire group (so not per person) – and can only be paid in cash on site to your guide: ***** Price a) the booked timeframe of 9.5 or 11 hours will not be exceeded (restrictions at other stops are possible): €70.00 ***** or ***** Price b) including 1 extra hour: €135.00
