Three experience spaces – one journey through time
Your experience at the Leezodrom combines three narrative spaces into a continuous immersive journey through the past, present, and future of Münster.
It starts with an atmospheric film that choices you up in the here and now. It showcases central places, themes, and perspectives of the city of Münster: urban society, architecture, mobility, and urban life. You'll get a feel for the city's identity and the issues that move it today.
Afterwards, you'll dive into an exhibition that takes you through five selected eras of the city's history. Here you'll meet fictional characters who are exemplary of their respective time. You'll get to know their realities, learn about their challenges, hopes, and perspectives – and meet them again later on the virtual ride.
The highlight is the VR bike tour: an immersive journey through the history of Münster, accompanied by individual voices from five eras. Starting from the Leezodrom at Syndikatplatz, you'll cross digitally reconstructed streets, immerse yourself in historical atmospheres, and experience the city as intensely as if you were there yourself.
Five times – five perspectives
1895 – The old Münster
You're riding through the Wilhelminian Münster at the end of the 19th century. At your side is a janitor proudly cycling through the city on his new low-rider bike. The bicycle represents technical progress, status, and new possibilities – and you'll experience a city in transition between tradition and modernity.
1925 – City on the move
In the Roaring Twenties, you're moving through a city full of optimism. An independent young woman accompanies you and uses the bicycle as a symbol of emancipation. You'll experience the Weimar Republic from a new, self-confident perspective – shaped by freedom, change, and social upheaval.
1945 – City in ruins
After World War II, large parts of Münster were destroyed. A survivor will guide you through the post-war cathedral and tell you about loss, hope, and new beginnings. During this time, the bicycle becomes an indispensable means of survival – practical, quiet, and usable everywhere.
1968 – A city for cars?
You'll experience Münster in a time of upheaval. A teenager on his Bonanza bike navigates traffic chaos, growing car traffic, and new social conflicts. The question is: Who owns the city – the car or the people?
2045 – A look into the future
At the end of the tour, you'll take a look ahead. What could Münster look like in 2045? What visions of mobility, urban design, and urban life could become reality? The future is open – and you're invited to help shape it.
