Experience Mount Etna from a unique perspective by choosing from three different excursions on the northern or southern slopes of Europe’s highest volcano. All excursions include an initial transfer by 4x4 jeep from the meeting point to the start of the trek, allowing you to reach high altitudes and immerse yourself straight away in the extraordinary landscapes of Mount Etna.
On the northern flank, starting from Piano Provenzana, traverse a wilder, more unspoilt landscape, characterised by the spectacular lava flows of 2002, high-altitude woodlands, and sweeping views of the Valle del Bove, the volcano’s vast natural amphitheatre. This is a less crowded area, ideal for those seeking a more immersive experience in close contact with nature.
On the southern slope, setting off from the Rifugio Sapienza area, explore scenery dominated by ancient lateral craters, vast lava fields, and incredible lunar landscapes, with views that, on the clearest days, stretch as far as the eastern coast of Sicily.
Hikes up to 2,900 metres are perfect for those in good physical shape who wish to experience the volcano’s power and history up close, accompanied by expert guides. For those seeking the most comprehensive experience, the route to the summit craters takes you up to an altitude of around 3,400 metres: after the off-road ascent and panoramic stops at the 2002 craters, the Valle del Bove, and the Volcanological Observatory, the route continues on foot towards the north-eastern and south-eastern summit craters, offering spectacular views over the whole of Sicily and the surrounding islands.
Amidst secondary craters, expanses of solidified lava, and landscapes reminiscent of the lunar surface, each itinerary offers a different way to discover the true spirit of Mount Etna and experience an unforgettable adventure in the heart of one of the world’s most fascinating and active volcanoes.
