Description

On a 54-foot (16-m) single-deck catamaran, head out to explore the ocean surrounding Molokini Crater as well as a nearby snorkelling spot. This adventure offers an opportunity to swim with tropical marine life and is complemented by an onboard lunch.

Before boarding, enjoy a continental breakfast in the crisp morning air at Ma'alaea Harbour. Then grab a seat on the bow and relax on your journey along the South Maui coastline. As the captain motors to Molokini Crater, a team of certified marine naturalists are there to provide narration. An onboard Junior Naturalist programme gets youngsters excited and ocean-ready, and a snorkelling lesson is available to all novice snorkellers.

Once moored at the crater, strap on your custom-fitted snorkel gear and get ready to dive into the crystal-clear water, which offers visibility of up to 150 feet (45 m). The crater is home to approximately 250 different marine species like black triggerfish, yellow tang, and raccoon butterflyfish.

Before heading to the next reef spot to look for Hawaiian green sea turtles, the captain takes you to the back wall of the crater, which rises above the ocean 200 feet (60 m) and drops 300 feet (90 m) to the floor. This crescent-shaped crater gives you an opportunity to spot nesting sea birds such as frigates and petrels. A scrumptious lunch is served onboard before the captain signals for your return journey.

Pacific Whale Foundation advocates for the use of protective clothing and reef-safe sun cream to help protect fragile coral reefs and to promote a healthy ocean environment. We support the statewide ban on sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate and, beginning November 2019, we are moving from encouragement to enforcement and instituting our own ban onboard PWF vessels of sunscreens containing: oxybenzone, octinoxate, avobenzone, avobenzine, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene, and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate in order to alleviate any additional stress on the coral reefs. When buying sun cream, it is important to read the ingredient list, as the term “reef safe” is not regulated and can be used as a marketing device. Choose sun cream that is non-nano zinc oxide based. Mahalo for helping us protect the ocean.

We ;love the Pacific Whale Foundation! A great organization! We would definitely recommend the Wild side! The smaller boat is much more maneuverable to get in spots the big boats can't reach. Not nearly as crowded as the bigger boats. .
