What you can expect

  • Living Nature in Santa Maria el Tule Our adventure begins with a visit to the legendary El Tule Tree. Marvel at this ahuehuete, which is over 2,000 years old and boasts the widest trunk in the world. As you walk around it, discover the whimsical shapes that time and nature have carved into its bark, an experience that will connect you with the living history of the region.
The Art of Colour in Teotitlán del Valle We'll continue on to the iconic community of Teotitlán del Valle, known worldwide for its exquisite wool rugs. Here, we will visit a family workshop where master artisans will demonstrate the traditional process for you, from carding the wool to dyeing it with natural pigments such as cochineal and indigo. You will learn the meaning behind each Zapotec design, gaining a deep insight into this cultural heritage.
The Spirit of Oaxaca: Mezcal Distillery To top it all off, we will visit an artisanal mezcal distillery (palenque). You will get an up-close look at the production process of “the drink of the gods”: from baking the agave piñas in earthen ovens to distilling them in copper stills. The experience culminates with a guided tasting of different varieties of mezcal, allowing you to discern the nuances and aromas that make this drink a unique liquid treasure unlike any other in the world.
