What you can expect

  • When you take a guided tour of our historic basalt rock cellars, you will descend into the deepest storage and fermentation cellars in the world. You will descend 30 metres underground via 153 steps. On a one-hour guided tour, you will experience the forces of nature in the widely branching basalt fractures. Here you will learn what the volcanic eruption of Lake Laach has to do with beer, and you can thus combine interesting facts with pleasure. It is true that the invention of the refrigeration machine from 1876 made it possible to brew bottom-fermented beer anywhere, even in the summer. But our master brewers still use the historic beer cellars today to store very special premium beers such as Germany's best craft beer of 2017, the Bourbon Barrel Doppelbock, in original bourbon wooden barrels from the USA.
