The Medellín Flower Festival is not only celebrated in the streets of the city. Its roots are in Santa Elena, a mountain village where local farming families have grown flowers and created traditional silletas for generations.

This experience takes you to the heart of the silletero tradition during the Medellín Flower Festival season. Travel from Medellín to Santa Elena, located about 50 minutes from the city, and visit a traditional silletero farm where you will learn how these iconic flower arrangements are made.

During the tour, a local silletero will guide you through the flower fields and explain the process behind each silleta, from the selection of flowers to the structure, colours, and message behind the final design. You will also learn about the history of the Flower Festival, which began in the 1950s as a tribute to the region’s flower growers, and understand why the Silleteros Parade has become one of Colombia’s most important cultural traditions.

At the farm, you will enjoy a warm welcome with folk music, take part in a practical silleta-making demonstration, and have time to talk with the silleteros about their stories, family heritage, and the meaning of carrying a silleta during the festival. A typical snack and a traditional mulera souvenir are also included.
