Yellowstone National Park

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
Located in the Rocky Mountains and often called the “backbone of America,” this park lies on a vast lava plateau between the Northern and Central Rockies in the western United States. Its hallmark is an extraordinary display of geothermal wonders—a primeval landscape shaped by the powerful forces of water and fire. The park’s natural terrain is divided into five major regions: the Mammoth Area, the Roosevelt Area, the Canyon Area, the Geyser Area, and the Lake Area, each distinguished by its own unique features. Surpassing the limits of human artistry, it stands as one of the most magnificent and awe-inspiring landscapes on Earth.

West Thumb Geyser Basin

  • 40m
  • Admission ticket included
The West Thumb Geyser Basin is situated at the western edge of a large bay along the shores of Yellowstone Lake. This area is known as the West Thumb caldera which was formed by a volcanic eruption that took place 174,000 years ago. This bay is actually a smaller caldera within the larger Yellowstone caldera. The resulting caldera filled with water, creating the bay.

Day 4: Yellowstone National Park

  • 5 stops
  • Meals: Not included
  • Accommodation: Grant Village Yellowstone, or West Yellowstone Hotel; or similar

Yellowstone National Park

  • 7h
  • Admission ticket included
Enjoy a full-day adventure in Yellowstone! Discover the park’s iconic landscapes as you visit Yellowstone Lake, Fishing Bridge, Mud Volcano, Upper Falls, Artist Point, Mammoth Hot Springs, the Yellowstone River, and Norris Geyser Basin. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife such as elk herds, bison, and even the majestic bald eagle. This 7-hour tour includes stops at Norris Geyser Basin, Upper Falls, Artist’s Point, Hayden Valley, Mud Volcano, Fishing Bridge, and other highlights. The itinerary may be adjusted based on conditions and timing on the day of the tour to ensure the best possible experience.

Norris Geyser Basin

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
Norris Geyser Basin, named after an early superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, is considered the hottest geyser basin in the park. The stark, barren landscape of Porcelain Basin is shaped by its highly acidic environment, where harsh conditions make it difficult for plants, algae, and bacteria to survive. Instead, the basin’s vivid colours come from mineral oxides—shades of pink, red, and orange from iron oxides, and yellows from sulphur and iron sulphates. The world’s largest geyser is also found here. Steamboat Geyser lies dormant for long periods, but when it erupts, it unleashes towering jets of water that can reach nearly 380 feet, creating a truly spectacular display.

Upper Falls

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
The Upper Falls is located about 400 metres upstream from the larger Lower Yellowstone Falls. The water plunges vertically down a volcanic cliff, dropping 33 metres. Over hundreds of years, the once-rugged volcanic rocks at the base of the falls have been worn smooth by the relentless force of the cascading water.

Artist Point

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
The scenery here is especially breathtaking. The canyon plunges more than 300 feet deep, its walls dominated by shades of yellow interwoven with black, red, and pink, and punctuated by clusters of green pine trees. The colours blend in harmony rather than chaos, resembling the spread of a peacock’s tail or the delicate pointillism of a romantic painter layering hues upon the same canvas.

Yellowstone Geysers - Mud Volcano Area

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
Located in the eastern part of Yellowstone National Park, near the northern shore of Yellowstone Lake, this area is known for its unique mud volcanoes. Unlike typical geysers, most features here erupt mud rather than water, and each eruption causes the ground to tremble. Surrounding the mud volcanoes are patches of vividly coloured grasses, strikingly soft and lush in appearance, creating a dramatic contrast with the raw power of the landscape.

Day 5: Yellowstone National Park - Salt Lake City

  • 6 stops
  • Meals: Not included
  • Accommodation: SpringHill Suites by Marriott Salt Lake City Airport; or similar

Yellowstone National Park

  • 3h
  • Admission ticket included
Continue your journey through the breathtaking Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Mysterious, tranquil forests, the romantic beauty of Yellowstone Lake, and mist-shrouded rivers inspire awe at the power of nature. Along the way, admire the vibrant colours of the Grand Prismatic Spring and the Paint Pots, witness the world-famous Old Faithful in action, take in the majestic beauty of the Yellowstone Grand Canyon and the thundering Upper Falls, and explore the colourful, steam-filled landscapes of Norris Geyser Basin. Keep your eyes open for close-up encounters with Yellowstone’s remarkable wildlife.

Fountain Paint Pot

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
The Paint Pots are a type of mud fountain formed when acidic hot springs dissolve mineral-rich rocks into thick mud. Because the muddy water is highly viscous, the slow rise and burst of bubbles can be clearly observed. The dried mud surrounding the fountain resembles cracked oil paint, making the feature appear like a pot of water mixed with pigments. It looks like a painter’s canvas, overflowing with rich, colourful tones.

Grand Prismatic Spring

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
Also known as the Seven Colour Pool, this is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world. Measuring approximately 75 to 91 metres in width and 49 metres in depth, it releases nearly 2,000 litres of 71°C hot water every minute. What makes the Grand Prismatic Spring truly remarkable is its seasonal colour transformation. In spring, the pool shifts from emerald green to golden orange-red, a result of algae and pigment-producing bacteria thriving in the mineral-rich water. By midsummer, lower chlorophyll levels cause the water to glow in brilliant shades of orange, red, and yellow. In winter, reduced sunlight prompts these microorganisms to produce more chlorophyll, muting the carotenoid colours and giving the spring a deep, dark green appearance.

Old Faithful

  • 30m
  • Admission ticket included
Old Faithful Geyser is named for its remarkably consistent and predictable eruptions. It currently erupts approximately every 60 to 110 minutes, with each eruption lasting four to five minutes. During an eruption, a towering column of water shoots more than 40 metres into the air, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The Old Faithful Visitor Centre posts eruption schedules in advance, allowing visitors to plan ahead and enjoy the show with confidence.

Yellowstone Bear World

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket not included
Grand Teton National Park is located in the Rocky Mountains, Northwest Wyoming. Grand Teton National Park is noted for its stunning mountain vistas and its shimmering alpine lakes. It is also home to a variety of abundant wildlife.

Great Salt Lake

  • 20m
Great Salt Lake, lake in northern Utah, US, the largest inland body of salt water in the Western Hemisphere and one of the most saline inland bodies of water in the world. The lake is fed by the Bear, Weber, and Jordan rivers and has no outlet. The lake has fluctuated greatly in size, depending on the rates of evaporation and the flow of the rivers that feed it. Like the Dead Sea, the Great Salt Lake exists within an arid environment and has chemical characteristics like that of the oceans. However, it has a much greater salinity than the oceans, since natural evaporation exceeds the supply of water from the rivers feeding the lake.

Day 6: Salt Lake City - Las Vegas

  • 2 stops
  • Meals: breakfast
  • Accommodation: The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower; or similar

Utah State Capitol

  • 30m
  • Admission ticket included
The Utah State Capitol is the house of government for the US state of Utah. The building houses the chambers and offices of the Utah State Legislature, the offices of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, the State Auditor and their staffs. The capital is the main building of the Utah State Capitol Complex, which is located on Capitol Hill, overlooking city centre Salt Lake City. The Neoclassical revival, Corinthian style building was designed by architect Richard K.A. Kletting and built between 1912 and 1916. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Seven Magic Mountains

  • 30m
Across the desert south of Las Vegas, Nevada, rises a large, colourful anomaly. Seven colossal stone forms defy gravity with their teetering formations. Mediating between geological formations and abstract compositions, Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains consists of locally sourced limestone boulders stacked vertically in groups ranging between three and six. Each stone boasts a different fluorescent colour, and each individual totem stands between thirty and thirty-five feet high. The artwork extends Rondinone’s long-running interest in natural phenomena and their reformulation in art.
