Begin your day with pickup in Las Terrenas, followed by a scenic drive to the Samaná ferry area. Board the ferry across Samaná Bay to Sabana de la Mar, the gateway to Los Haitises National Park.
After arriving in Sabana de la Mar, your local guide will take you to the boat departure point for Los Haitises National Park. The boat tour begins through beautiful mangrove channels, where red mangroves grow directly from the water and create a peaceful natural maze.
As you continue into San Lorenzo Bay, see the famous limestone mogotes rising from the sea. These small mountain islands are covered with tropical vegetation and are home to many birds, including pelicans, frigatebirds, herons, and other wetland species.
Continue with visits to caves inside the park. These caves were once used by the Taino people, and today they contain ancient pictographs and petroglyphs. Your guide will explain the history, culture, and natural importance of the area.
After exploring Los Haitises, continue to Caño Hondo, where you can enjoy the natural river pools surrounded by tropical forest. The cool, fresh water is perfect for relaxing after the boat tour. You will have time to swim, take photos, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before returning to Sabana de la Mar for the ferry back to Samaná and then transport to Las Terrenas.
