What you can expect

  • Meet your guide at the National Trust Stickle Ghyll car park in Great Langdale. Begin by discussing the day, considering the route, equipment, aims, and objectives.

Start from the valley and follow the tumbling waterfalls of Stickle Ghyll to Stickle Tarn, nestled below the plunging cliffs of Pavey Ark. Walk at a leisurely pace with plenty of time to stop, absorb the scenery, and take pictures.

From Stickle Tarn, take an exciting journey with stunning views over the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Depending on the weather conditions, your walk will generally be 6-7 miles long, include no more than 700m of ascent, and take around 6-7 hours to complete.

Ascends may include Pavey Ark (2288ft), Harrison Stickle (2403ft), Pike O’ Stickle (2323ft), and Loft Crag (2270ft). Bring a flask of drink and some food as you will take time to stop, relax, and enjoy refreshments and the magnificent far-reaching scenery.

The walking is generally on good mountain paths but will include some steeper slopes and rocky terrain. During these walks, your qualified mountain leader will ensure you stay on the right paths, highlight points of interest, introduce local tales and legends, answer questions, and ensure you have an enjoyable and memorable day.
