Mysterious history and dreamlike views: The exclusive Heiligenberg hike in Heidelberg
Our journey of discovery begins at the idyllically located Heiligenberg hiking car park, from where we dive straight into the millennial history of this mystical mountain. Our first path leads us to the historic ruins of the 11th-century St. Stephen's Monastery and the enigmatic Heidenloch, a deep, legendary shaft structure from the Roman or Celtic period. From there, we will reach the monumental Thingstätte, built in the 1930s, an imposing open-air theatre in the middle of the forest. Just a few steps further up, the impressive remains of the St. Michael's monastery tower, once again taking us far back into the past at the summit of the Heiligenberg.
After this historical summit ascent, we will continue on to the bustling forest hub of Zollstock. From here, we descend to the world-famous Philosophenweg, where poets and thinkers of the Romantic era once walked. Here, the absolute postcard scene opens up before you: the breathtaking, unobstructed view of Heidelberg Castle, the Old Town, and the Old Bridge. Along the way, we pass the historic Bismarck Tower and finally reach the Fuchsrondell, a wonderful vantage point that invites you to linger and enjoy the panorama. With these unforgettable impressions in our hearts, we begin the leisurely return journey through the shady forest, which will surely lead us back to our starting point at the hiking car park.
