What you can expect

Experience the rainforest at night on our Night Jungle Walk, located 10 kilometres from city centre La Fortuna in the Peñas Blancas area. This region is mostly known for cattle ranches and farmland, but hidden among them we have access to a private property with over 60,000 square metres of natural forest where this experience takes place.

We intentionally operate the tour here rather than inside town or on landscaped hotel trails. Many night walks in the Arenal region take place on resort grounds or recreated forest environments with decorative paths and controlled settings. Our goal is different: to explore a real piece of forest that remains largely untouched, where wildlife lives naturally and without artificial conditions.

As night falls, the forest becomes active with sounds and movement from nocturnal species. Accompanied by an ICT-certified naturalist guide, guests walk moderate trails while we search for the animals that are naturally active at night.

This experience is primarily focused on amphibians, reptiles, insects, and other small nocturnal species that are commonly found in this ecosystem.

Guests frequently encounter animals such as:

Red-Eyed Tree Frogs
Glass Frogs and other amphibians
Snakes camouflaged among leaves and branches
Insects, spiders, and other nocturnal creatures

Occasionally, nocturnal mammals such as two-toed sloths, bats, owls, or anteaters may also appear, but wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Every night in the forest is different, and animal activity depends entirely on natural conditions and behaviour.

For this reason, we use low-intensity lights intentionally, allowing guests to observe wildlife while minimising disturbance to the animals and preserving the natural nighttime environment.

Some nights the forest is very active and many species are seen. Other nights wildlife can be more difficult to find. This is simply part of exploring a natural ecosystem where nature cannot be controlled.

This tour is designed for travellers who enjoy discovering nature with curiosity and patience, appreciating the sounds, atmosphere, and unpredictability of a real forest at night.

Group sizes are limited to a maximum of 8 guests per guide, creating a more personal and focused experience. Our professional guides are trained to safely lead the walk, search for wildlife, and interpret the forest so guests can better understand what they are seeing.

Tours depart daily at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.. After booking, guests receive the exact Google Maps location for Night Tour La Fortuna in Peñas Blancas. On-site parking is available.

This experience is not about guaranteed sightings, but about exploring a real forest at night and being surprised by what nature chooses to reveal.
