Unagi has long held a special place in Japanese food culture, valued not only for its flavour but also for its symbolic meaning. In this experience, you will not only enjoy unagi—you will also gain a deeper understanding of its cultural significance and background.
Your host is a skilled chef specialising in eel cuisine, who will guide you through traditional preparation methods while clearly explaining how each dish reflects Japan’s sense of seasonality and culinary philosophy. The meal is served in a kaiseki style, thoughtfully paced, with the unagi master’s commentary enhancing the flavours and appreciation of each dish.
You can also enjoy a fresh wasabi grating experience and locally selected sake chosen specifically for this meal (wasabi and sake are available as optional add-ons for an additional fee).
The experience takes place in Kawagoe, a historic town easily accessible from Tokyo. It offers a quiet and relaxed atmosphere distinct from urban fine-dining restaurants—ideal for those seeking an authentic food experience and a slower pace.
Please note: This tour is conducted in Japanese. An English guide is available as an optional add-on.
