This tour is a perfect bridge between the cultural capital of Kandy and the high-altitude landscapes of the hill country. Since there is currently no direct train service between Nanu Oya and Ella, this car tour ensures you don't miss any highlights before catching the scenic train from Ambewela.
The main thing you need to know is that the train from Ambewela to Ella leaves at 1.30pm on some days and at 3.00pm on other days, so keep in mind that the places we visit on the trip will change to suit those times. Also, you should start this journey early in the morning.

Stop at the stunning Ramboda Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in Sri Lanka. You can enjoy a refreshing break at the viewpoint and capture photos of the “Y-shaped” cascades.
Tea Estate & Factory Tour
Visit an authentic Ceylon Tea Factory (such as Damro or Blue Field). Walk through the emerald-green estates, learn the traditional tea-making process, and enjoy a fresh cup of “BOP” tea with a view.
Nuwara Eliya ('Little England')
Explore the colonial charm of Nuwara Eliya. This segment includes:
Post Office: One of the oldest in Sri Lanka, featuring Tudor-style architecture.
Lake Gregory: A peaceful spot for a quick stroll or boat ride.
Victoria Park: Beautifully maintained gardens in the heart of the city.
- Ambewela Farm ('Little New Zealand')
Before your train departure, visit the Ambewela Dairy Farm. The rolling green pastures, grazing cattle, and mist-covered hills earn this area its nickname, offering a landscape unlike anywhere else in the country.
Drop-off at Ambewela Railway Station
The tour concludes with a drop-off at the Ambewela Railway Station, the highest station in Sri Lanka. From here, you can board the train for the most scenic part of the journey to Ella, passing over the Nine Arch Bridge and through dense highland forests.
