Begin your journey with a cab ride from Junagadh to the starting point of the Girnar Hills steps. Instead of taking the newly built ropeway or modern routes, opt for the old steps — a more thrilling and raw path that’s less crowded and gives a very local feel.

Start your climb, ascending around 5,000 steps to reach the Amba Mataji Temple. On the way, experience the peaceful energy of the hills, meet local pilgrims, and see ancient architecture tucked away in the rocks. Once you reach the temple, spend some time soaking in the spiritual atmosphere, enjoying panoramic views from the top, and trying out some local snacks offered by the small stalls around.

From here, for those who are up for a challenge, there's the option to continue climbing another 3,000 steps all the way up to the Dattatreya Temple, which sits right at the peak of Girnar. It’s a tough climb, but the sense of accomplishment and the sights at the top make it completely worth it.
