The adventure begins early, around 4:30 a.m., with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco to start the journey towards the district of Mollepata, in the province of Anta. The drive takes approximately 2 hours, with a stop along the way to enjoy a light breakfast at a local restaurant.
The trip then continues to Soraypampa, the starting point of the hike. From there, the ascent to Humantay Lagoon begins—a hike of approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the group’s pace. The trail is steep and challenging, reaching an altitude of 4,200 metres above sea level, so proper acclimatisation is essential.
Upon reaching the lagoon, you’ll have free time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery surrounded by the Humantay and Salkantay snow-capped peaks. The glacier-fed lagoon stands out for its intense turquoise colour and spiritual energy, considered sacred by Andean communities.
After enjoying the site, you’ll descend back to Soraypampa, followed by a traditional lunch in Mollepata. The return to Cusco takes place in the afternoon, with an estimated arrival between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.
Around 10:00 a.m., you’ll reach the summit, where you’ll have free time to take photos and marvel at the mountain’s natural colours, formed by minerals such as iron, sulphur, and copper. After enjoying the landscape, you’ll begin the return to Cusipata, where a local lunch awaits. Finally, the journey back to Cusco begins around 3:00 p.m., with an estimated arrival at 5:00 p.m.
