What you can expect

The meeting point is at the National Constitution Centre, at 101 N Independence Mall W. We meet OUTSIDE the Starbucks at the Constitution Centre at the bottom of the steps on ARCH STREET. Please do not wait anywhere inside. Meeting spot is on Arch Street where it intersects with 6th Street.

On the Historic Philly for Kids Ages 5-12 tour we will pass by and learn about the following locations:

National Constitution Centre: Our meeting point and tour introduction. The National Constitution Centre is a national Museum dedicated to the Constitution of the United States of America.

Free Quaker Meeting House: How did Pennsylvania begin? Learn about the Quakers and hear how Betsy Ross worshipped here at the Free Quaker Meeting House, c. 1783.

United States Mint: Philadelphia had the nation’s first mint. Today, this site is the largest mint in the world, producing most of America’s coins.

Ben Franklin’s Grave: Philly’s favourite founding father. See his grave from 1790 and hear about his incredible life, both here in Philly and overseas.

Ben Franklin Statue: See “Keys to the Community,” a nine-foot bronze bust of founding father Benjamin Franklin by sculptor James Peniston. Why are there keys all over Ben?

Betsy Ross House: Did Betsy Ross really sew the first American flag? The house, c. 1740s, has so many wonderful stories. If only the walls could talk.

Elfreth’s Alley: A National Historic Landmark and the oldest lived-on street in America, dating from 1703. Cobblestones, busybodies, colonial houses, historic fire markers. Could you live like this in the 18th century?

Historic Christ Church: Historic Christ Church is a remarkable surviving landmark from the American Revolution. Signers of the Declaration of Independence are buried here, along with other notable revolutionary figures.

Independence Hall: The United States was born here! The US Constitution was created here! Huzzah! Independence Hall, c. 1733, was the Pennsylvania State House for more than forty years before America separated from Britain in 1776. If only the walls could talk.
