The tour departs from Hiroshima, with the first stop at the historically significant Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Within the park, the Peace Memorial Monument, the Atomic Dome, and numerous sculptures and stone steles commemorating the victims of the 1945 atomic bombing stand in solemn silence. As the park’s core exhibition hall, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is dedicated to revealing the historical truth of the atomic bombing and telling the life stories of the victims. After leaving the Peace Memorial Park, you’ll head to the coast and take a ferry to the picturesque Miyajima Island. Renowned for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning natural scenery, this small island is home to Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of Japan’s Three Most Scenic Views, Itsukushima Shrine astounds the world with its unique design of “the sea as its garden”. Its red shrine buildings and corridors stretch along the water, seemingly floating on the sea at high tide; at low tide, you can walk to the base of the iconic Great Torii Gate and experience the perfect harmony between nature and ancient architecture.
Exploring Miyajima is full of surprises. You can wander along the winding, charming alleys and discover ancient temples hidden deep in the green shade. Be sure to try the world-famous Miyajima oysters, paired with the soft and sweet Momiji Manju (a local pastry shaped like maple leaves), each bite bursting with rich local flavours. In the evening, take the ferry back to the Japanese mainland, then transfer to a bus to Hiroshima Station, where this perfect journey comes to an end.
