What you can expect

  • Before railways and airlines, power flowed through the Grand Canal, carrying grain, silk, ideas, and ambition. Join us in tracing the ancient artery that connects two imperial capitals, once sustaining the life of empires and still quietly fuelling the everyday vibrancy of Hangzhou today. The journey begins at the Beijing–Hangzhou Grand Canal Museum. You will take part in a hands-on local craft experience while exploring how the Grand Canal connected economies throughout history. From there, we will continue on foot through the Qiaoxi Historic District and Xiaohe’s canal-side streets, where former trading quarters have evolved into vibrant areas and local markets. Next, we will board a boat and cruise along the Grand Canal towards Xiangji Temple, following the waterway’s original flow. We will conclude the experience with a peaceful temple visit beside the canal.
