At an altitude of over 1000 metres and with a vast landscape overlooking the North and Centre of the country, the plateau of the iconic Serra da Freita stretches out.
Take a walking tour, learning about the main points of geological interest (geosites) in the area.
Examples include lithological contacts, fold belts, “pedras boroas” (conglomerate stones), the internationally famous “pedras parideiras” (birthing stones), and even the highest waterfall on mainland Portugal, the Frecha da Mizarela.
Immerse yourself in the countryside as you pass through mountain villages such as the Village of Cabaços or the Village of Castanheira: traditional villages that have shaped this mountain and where you're sure to receive a warm welcome.
Spot native animal and plant species in different ecosystems such as peatlands and lakes, in a place where fauna and flora coexist harmoniously.
And if you need another reason, you can also visit one of the most historically and archaeologically significant sites (archaeological sites) in the area: the Neolithic Portela da Anta.
