Begin your adventure with a pickup from Nairobi and drive to Castle Forest Lodge, stopping for breakfast along the way. Upon arrival, register with the Kenya Forest Service, meet your guide, and warm up for your hike.
Set off on a forest road, then cut onto elephant paths through dense rainforest and bamboo thickets. Make your first stop at a small waterfall right behind the lodge for photos.
Continue down to Kamweti/Ford Falls, navigating a steep, narrow descent and crossing the river on wooden bridges. Take a break at the main waterfall, which is wide, cold, and loud. Enjoy lunch on the rocks, and if you're brave, take a dip in the freezing water.
Turn back at 1:30 PM to avoid walking in the forest after dark when buffalo and elephants are active. Enjoy a slow climb back to the lodge, birdwatching along the way. Look for Hartlaub's turaco, silvery-cheeked hornbill, and colobus monkeys.
End your hike with hot tea at the lodge restaurant and change into dry clothes. Then, drive back to Nairobi, arriving around 8:30 PM.
