Know before you book

What you can expect

Hike along a frozen creek inside the Canadian Rockies and discover Grotto Canyon’s one-of-a-kind geological features and ice formations. Led by a knowledgeable guide, the tour covers the area’s rich history, unique geology, and ancient native pictographs.

Arrive in a snowy paradise in the Canadian Rockies for a truly impressive Canadian adventure. As your guide discusses what to expect on the tour, strap into your ice cleats and grab a pair of adjustable hiking poles. Set off along a frozen stream bed, stomping your feet along the way to get suitable traction. Relish nature’s spectacular scenery of frozen waterfalls draped down mountainsides and maybe even spot an ice climber.

Inside the canyon, find 600–800-year-old hieroglyphs created by the Hopi tribe that once inhabited this land. Learn about the area’s unique history and uncover the stunted pine forest and ancient ocean floors. After the 2.6-mile (4.2-km) hike, warm up with a delicious cup of hot chocolate and a maple cookie snack.
