The artisan distillery Payet & Rivière opens its doors for a unique immersion in the sugar history of the island and the making of Galabé, a local sweetness based on pure cane juice with an intense and refined taste. Guided by enthusiasts, you will discover the secrets of an ancestral Galabé recipe almost forgotten, passed down from generation to generation. The route will also introduce you to the steps of making the very first rums of the Reunion property, from the field to the bottle. Squeeze your own cane juice using a traditional mill, explore the different stages of cane processing, and watch the machines in an open-air workshop with ocean views. The tour ends with a generous tasting. This “Discovery” course is aimed at both children and adults. Dress: trainers or open shoes that hold the foot well, even flip-flops, but not practical in heels. NB: As cane juice processing is a seasonal activity, we cannot guarantee that you will see the workshop and the tools in operation during your visit.
