Description

Discover the heart of Basque Country with a guided walking tour of the capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and its surrounding areas. An expert guide leads you through the history, architecture, and bio-diversity of the culturally rich region, including lunch in the mediaeval village of Balmaseda.

Get picked up from your hotel in Bilbao and drive out towards Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of Basque Country. A friendly guide takes you on a walking tour of the city's most emblematic landmarks, including new Cathedral of Mary Immaculate with its High Gothic architecture, the 14th-century Church of St. Michael the Archangel, and the Basque Parliament headquarters. Your guide introduces you to the history and significance of each stop.

After your city walkthrough, head out to Salinas de Añana, a town renowned for its ancient salt flats that were formed in the Triassic Period. Learn about the history, archaeology, and the bio-diversity of the flats, including the over 5,000 salt pans that have been built in the area since Roman times. Later, take lunch in the mediaeval village of Balmaseda before travelling to Santurtzi and Portugalete on the coast. Your tour concludes with a trip across the UNESCO-listed Bizkaya Bridge, which crosses the Nervion River and was built in 1893, before you head back to Bilbao.

What a great day. Stefan our guide was full of knowledge about the area. Lunch was excellent. Really enjoyed the tour.

My husband and I were the only ones in the tour, but the guide treated us excellently. He was so knowledgeable in the areas we visited. When we were traveling from one place to another, he used the time to give us information about local language, education, history, sports, etc. the visit included lunch in an old convent that is used as hotel and restaurant. The food served to us was high quality "Gourmet " . He also gave us free time to explore at our own. I recommend this tour because you will learn and explore more than can you can absorbe in one day.
