What you can expect
- Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine & Togedo Rock
(Stay Duration: 60 minutes total)
-45 minutes to explore the sacred Shinto shrine, famous as a filming location for the anime Hotarubi no Morie. You can admire its moss-covered stone lanterns and peaceful sacred grounds.
-15 minutes to visit the nearby Togedo Rock, a beautiful natural rock formation that enhances the shrine’s tranquil atmosphere.
Please follow the shrine rules: keep voices low and do not touch any sacred objects.
2.Mt. Aso Volcano & Kusasenri
(Stay Duration: Approximately 90 minutes total)
Explore Mt. Aso Volcano and Kusasenri, home to Japan’s largest caldera, where you can experience the powerful energy of nature.
From Kusanohashi Overlook, you can enjoy sweeping views of the 25km-wide caldera and the active, smoking Nakadake Peak. The grassy plateau shows beautiful seasonal colours, making it perfect for photos.
At Kusasenri, wild horses graze near a volcanic lake that reflects the mountain. You may also stack volcanic rocks and try local kuro-tamago (black eggs), a speciality said to bring longevity.
Important Schedule Adjustment#: Due to a recent helicopter accident, Mt. Aso is temporarily closed. The itinerary will be changed to viewing the volcano from Mt. Aso Volcano Plaza.
In case of heavy rain or fog, we will visit Senbazuru Deer Park as an alternative. If the volcano reopens on the day, we will resume the original visit. Thank you for your understanding.
Access to the crater is subject to daily official announcements. If closed, we will spend extra time exploring Kusasenri Grassland. Please note that the 90-minute stay includes lunch time, which can be bought at local shops (lunch not included).
Hiking tips: wear non-slip footwear and a windbreaker, as the area can be windy and volcanic ash may be slippery.
- Kurokawa Onsen
(Stay Duration: Approximately 90 minutes total)
End your day at Kurokawa Onsen, a charming hidden hot spring village in the mountains. Relax in natural open-air baths surrounded by forests and the Kurokawa River.
Onsen rules: no swimwear allowed; please wash your body completely before entering.Tattoos are generally not permitted in public baths, so please cover them if necessary.Hot spring fees are at your own expense.
