Even the first settlers had discovered the 695 m high peak. One of the few springs rises from the rock at 460 m above sea level.
In the past, these places were considered sacred, as the lives of humans and animals were secured thanks to the spring. This is evidenced by the numerous bone finds from the area, which now provide information about life long before the island was conquered. The view to the southern tip of Punta Jandia and the magnificent view over the little-known hinterland are impressive. On a clear day, you can see the southern peninsula of Jandia wonderfully.

The hike's destination is the chapel of the Virgin of El Tanquito, which you'll reach after an hour. Carved into the volcanic rock, the small pilgrimage chapel surprises you at 460 m above sea level. Every year at the beginning of June, the procession of the Virgin is organised here and hundreds of locals celebrate their saint.

On all other days of the year, hardly anyone uses the hiking trail, so this tour is still an insider tip for those seeking peace and quiet. Especially in the autumn and winter months, you'll always discover plants on Mount El Cardon that are supplied with moisture by the clouds of the trade winds and offer unique contrasts.

You won't reach the summit on this guided tour, as the last few metres are heavily weathered and there's no path.

The tour is suitable for participants aged 9-75. You don't need any off-road experience. Normal physical fitness is a prerequisite, as the hike goes up and down on a hiking trail.
It's important to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes with a good grip, as the ground is made of gravel.
