Jade Lake sits around 150 kilometres outside of Tashkent. The route follows: Tashkent – Charvak – Pskem – Urungach – Tashkent. Your driver will collect you directly from your hotel. Please be at the reception area 5 minutes prior to departure. The journey begins from Tashkent, with a few photo opportunities along the way upon request. After covering 100 kilometres, the paved road gives way to an unpaved dirt track, where you will switch to classic Soviet-era Niva vehicles. Upon reaching the area, a short walk of 650-700 metres along a stream leads you to the first lake. Jade Lake lies within the Ugam-Chatkal National Park at an elevation of 1,227 metres above sea level.
There are two lakes in this area — the Big Jade Lake and the Little Jade Lake. The Lower (Smaller) Lake displays a more vivid turquoise hue and typically dries up by July. Its water is remarkably pure, as it is fed by the upper lake through an underground passage filtered naturally by sand and gravel, giving it its characteristic jade-like colour. The Upper Lake also carries the deep jade tone. The two lakes are connected by a 1.5-kilometer walking path with a gentle around 200-meter uphill climb, making it an easy trek. The Big Jade Lake was created by a rock collapse that eventually formed a natural dam. It reaches a depth of around 11 metres, with water temperatures ranging between 3°C and 8°C. Enjoy a lakeside picnic and free time to relax while soaking in the panoramic scenery. Afterwards, board the Niva vehicles back to the paved road, where your driver will be waiting to return you to Tashkent and drop you off at your chosen location.
