Activity itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Mount Toubkal Refuge

Imlil

Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech, followed by a scenic drive south into the High Atlas Mountains. As you leave the bustling city behind, the landscape gradually transforms into dramatic mountain scenery dotted with traditional Berber villages. Upon arrival in the village of Imlil, you will meet your certified mountain guide and mule team, who will assist with luggage and supplies.

Toubkal Hiking Team

From Imlil, the trek starts gently, passing through terraced fields, walnut groves, and small mountain settlements. Along the way, you will stop for lunch prepared by the trekking team, allowing you to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The ascent continues towards the Toubkal Refuge, located at the foot of Mount Toubkal. Dinner is served at the refuge, where you can relax and prepare for the summit climb. Overnight at the refuge in a shared or private room, depending on availability.

Day 2: Mount Toubkal Summit – Imlil

Mount Toubkal

Before sunrise, you will begin the ascent to the summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 metres. The climb is challenging but non-technical, and your guide will set a steady pace to ensure safety and acclimatisation. Reaching the summit rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views over the Atlas Mountains and, on clear days, as far as the Sahara Desert.

Imlil

After spending time at the summit for photos and rest, you will descend back to the refuge for breakfast, then continue the trek down to Imlil.

Day 3: Imlil – Aït Ben Haddou – Dades Valley

After breakfast, your private driver will meet you in Imlil to begin the journey towards southern Morocco. You will cross the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with photo stops along the way. Around midday, you will arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages. You will have free time to explore its ancient alleys and learn about its historical importance along the caravan routes.

Boumalne Dades

Continuing through Ouarzazate and the Skoura oasis, the landscape gradually changes into arid valleys and striking rock formations. By late afternoon, you will reach the beautiful Dades Valley, famous for its winding roads and dramatic canyon views. Dinner and overnight will be in a comfortable hotel or riad overlooking the valley.

Day 4: Dades Valley – Todgha Gorges – Merzouga Desert

Todgha Gorge

Following breakfast, you will travel eastward through Berber villages and desert landscapes. A highlight of the day is a visit to the impressive Todgha Gorges, where massive limestone cliffs rise sharply on both sides of the river. You will have time for a short walk and photos in this spectacular natural setting.

Merzouga

In the afternoon, you will continue towards the Sahara until reaching Merzouga Desert, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Upon arrival, you will leave the vehicle and enjoy a camel ride across the golden dunes at sunset. The ride leads you to your desert camp, where a traditional Moroccan dinner is served, followed by Berber music around the campfire. Overnight in a standard or luxury desert tent under the stars

Day 5: Merzouga Desert - 4X4 village tour

Merzouga

After breakfast at the camp, you will set off on a 4×4 excursion to explore the Merzouga region. This day allows you to discover more of the Sahara’s culture and landscapes, including visits to nomadic families, fossil areas, and small desert villages. You may also stop in Khamlia village to experience traditional Gnawa music, originally brought to the region by sub-Saharan communities. The afternoon is spent enjoying the calm desert atmosphere, with time to relax or walk among the dunes. You will return to your desert accommodation in the late afternoon, where dinner is served and the night is spent in the peaceful silence of the Sahara.

Day 6: Merzouga Desert – Marrakech

Marrakech-Safi

Early risers can enjoy one last desert sunrise before breakfast. Afterwards, you will depart Merzouga and begin the long but scenic drive back to Marrakech. The route passes through remote desert towns, valleys, and mountain landscapes, with stops along the way for rest, lunch (not included), and photos. In the evening, you will arrive back in Marrakech, marking the end of an exceptional journey that combines high-mountain trekking, historic kasbahs, dramatic valleys, and the magic of the Sahara Desert.
