About Periyar
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Periyar Tiger Reserve, is one of the well-known protected areas in Kerala, located in Thekkady, Idukki district. Spread across the Cardamom Hills and Pandalam Hills of the Western Ghats, it covers approximately 925 sq. km, including a core area of about 350 sq. km designated as a tiger reserve.
The sanctuary is known for its diverse flora and fauna, scenic landscapes, and nature-based visitor experiences. At its heart lies Periyar Lake, a reservoir formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam, which forms part of the surrounding forest landscape. The lake is a popular location for boat cruises, where visitors may have the opportunity to spot wildlife near the water’s edge.

Day 01: Kochi to Thekkady – Periyar
Pick up from Kochi and proceed to Thekkady. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel/resort.
In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Periyar Lake, offering an opportunity to experience the surrounding landscapes and wildlife.
In the evening, explore the local spice market or choose an optional Kalaripayattu martial arts show or Kathakali dance performance in Thekkady town.
Overnight stay at the hotel in Thekkady.

Day 02: Periyar Nature Walk – Departure
Early in the morning, proceed for a guided nature walk in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, led by trained forest guides.
Walk through evergreen and moist deciduous forest areas and experience the surroundings of the Western Ghats.
Return to the hotel for breakfast.
Later, visit a spice plantation and learn about the cultivation of cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, and vanilla.
After check-out, transfer to Kochi for your onward journey.
