Datong Ancient City Wall represents exquisite ancient Chinese military architecture. It was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty by General Xu Da on the ruins of cities dating back to the Northern Wei, Liao and Jin dynasties. The square rampart extends 7.24 kilometres around the old town. Built of rammed earth covered with blue bricks, it features complete defensive facilities including city gates, watchtowers and barbicans. As a vital frontier stronghold in ancient northern China, the wall preserves profound historical heritage. Walking along the wall, visitors enjoy panoramic views of the ancient city, and the lit rampart presents fantastic scenery after sunset.

Datong Nine-Dragon Wall is China’s oldest and largest glazed tile nine-dragon screen wall, built in the Ming Dynasty as the screen wall of Prince Dai’s mansion. Covered with colourful glazed tiles, the wall displays vivid dragons chasing pearls amid waves and clouds. With sophisticated craftsmanship and bright lasting colours, it reflects supreme ancient Chinese ceramic art. Far older than the ones in Beijing, this precious relic embodies traditional imperial culture. It is a landmark showcasing remarkable ancient Chinese architectural and sculptural skills.
