Overview

Explore the ancient city with your personal driver. Watch out for the greenery view of Kulen Mountain from Ta Kho Natural Cliff. Continue the trip to Kulen Site which holds significant symbolic value for Cambodia as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire proclaimed by King Jayavarman II in 802.

This era saw the construction of numerous temples and residences, the renowned 1000 Lingas, a holly Waterfall, as well as the Reclining Buddha Statue.

After our exploration of Holly Mountain, we descend to a fishing community known as Kompong Pluk, which translates to “Harbour of the Tusks.“, at Tonle Sap, the largest Fresh water lake in Southeast Asia. This community relies on fishing for its survival, particularly in the shrimp and fish, throughout Cambodia's wet season, which lasts from May to October.

Many houses within the community are elevated on stilts, ranging from 6 to 9 metres in height, to adapt to the fluctuating water levels experienced between the wet and dry seasons.

Phnom Kulen National Park

Phnom Kulen holds profound symbolic significance for Cambodia as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. It was here, in 802 CE, that King Jayavarman II declared independence from Java, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s history. Following this declaration, he introduced the Devaraja cult, a linga cult that formalised the divine status of the king, around 804 CE. Recognised as a holy mountain, Phnom Kulen is of particular religious significance to both Hindus and Buddhists, who frequently visit the site for pilgrimage. Near the waterfalls, there is Preah Ang Thom, a 16th-century Buddhist monastery, renowned for housing the largest reclining Buddha in the country. What to see; - Ta Kho Cliff - Reclining Buddha Statue - 1000 Lingam - Multi-Colored Spring - Waterfalls - Kraol Romeas Temple
Kompong Phluk

Kampong Phluk is a commune situated in the Prasat Bakong District of Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. Its name translates to "Harbour of the Tusks." The local community primarily relies on fishing, particularly for shrimp, especially during the wet season from May to October. To adapt to the fluctuations in water levels between the wet and dry seasons, many structures within the commune are built on stilts, with heights varying between 6 metres and 9 metres. In the dry season, from November to April, the river's water level decreases, leading many residents to engage in agriculture to enhance their income. Additionally, tourism, which began to develop in the village around a decade ago, is increasingly becoming an integral component of the local economy. As of 2019, Kampong Phluk is home to 911 families, comprising a total population of 3,707. The commune encompasses three villages: Tnaot Kambot, Dey Krahom, and Kok Kdol.
