What you can expect

The Frankfurt Art Association is an interdisciplinary exhibition centre for contemporary art and culture. It was founded in 1829 by Frankfurt citizens as an independent art space not bound by any state-sponsored or elitist conception of art. Here, socially relevant issues of our time are explored by artists and expanded to include the perspective of the sciences. At the Frankfurter Kunstverein, an inquisitive public can discover exhibitions that can be experienced through the senses and gain new perspectives on our present.

Upcoming Exhibition: Hidden History – Facets of Subculture in Frankfurt Rhein-Main (Opening on April 17 at 6:00 PM)

Featuring Annette Gloser (with Silke Thoss), Die Schmiere, Hannibal Tarkan Daldaban, Heiner Blum, Honji Wang, Labelstore, Leonard Kahlcke, Oguz Sen, Rushy Diamond, and Schwarzi

The Frankfurt Art Association invites the Diamant Museum for Urban Culture, Offenbach, to the Steinerne Haus on the Römerberg. Through intensive collaboration, a four-week partnership is being created, featuring numerous activities, participatory elements, and opportunities for engagement. Hidden History is more than just an exhibition. It presents spaces documenting historical and contemporary examples of subversive, subcultural activity in the form of installations, activatable spaces, visual wall newspapers, collaborative wall drawings, tape art, performances, and video installations.

Which figures and activities have shaped the scene in Frankfurt-Offenbach-RheinMain in recent years? And how do they continue to influence the cultural fabric of our city to this day? Hidden History takes a behind-the-scenes look at the city and offers exemplary insights into the culture of a public sphere that is hidden from many. This culture, too, has its masters, legends, and masterpieces. In Hidden History, we can discover them together.

In this way, the exhibition at the Frankfurt Art Association expands the scope of cultural perception. Curated by Heiner Blum, in collaboration with the Frankfurter Kunstverein team, a vibrant and open space for cultural research and activity is being created.

The Frankfurt Art Association invites everyone to discover new perspectives and to participate in a playful way. A key component of Hidden History is made up of performative events, workshops, lectures, guided tours, and concerts. For children and young people, there is an extensive workshop programme featuring artists from the exhibition, which, moving beyond digital habits, allows them to rediscover the city and its landmarks as a space of experience and opens up analogue spaces of possibility.

Over the course of four weeks, the Frankfurt Art Association will be transformed into a living archive of urban culture in search of the history of the future.
