Flagstaff wasn’t always the quiet mountain town people think it is.
Before it became a college town with craft breweries and stargazing, this place was a railway boomtown full of saloons, rivalries, and people who didn’t always make it to morning. Some of them, it turns out, never really left.
We’re Flagstaff’s original ghost tour, family owned by the people who literally wrote the book on this town’s dark side. Co-founder Susan Johnson is the author of Wicked Flagstaff, Haunted Flagstaff, and The Walkup Family Murders and every storey on this tour comes from her original research. No scripts. No recycled Wikipedia pages. Just real history, told by guides who know these streets and the people who haunt them.
On this 75-minute walk through city centre, you’ll visit 7–8 haunted landmarks. You’ll hear about the phantom bellboy at the Monte Vista Hotel, how John Weatherford came to Flagstaff to build his fortune, and the dark history of Wheeler Park that most Flagstaff residents don’t know. And then there’s the Marie Walkup case - we won’t spoil it here, but it’s the storey that made Susan write a whole book.
This walking tour is about a mile on city centre pavements at a comfortable pace. We don’t enter buildings, but trust us: the stories are better from the street, where you can look up at the windows and wonder what’s looking back.
Your attendance is gravely appreciated.
