What you can expect

  • Discover the History, Culture & Architecture of Rio

Dive into the heart of Rio de Janeiro and journey through centuries of history, culture, art, and architecture.

Our experience begins at the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of Rio’s most striking landmarks. Its monumental Brutalist architecture stands in sharp contrast to the city’s colonial past, offering the perfect introduction to the layers of history that have shaped Rio.

From there, we walk through Largo da Carioca, where traces of colonial Rio meet the energy of modern city life — a place where the past and present come together at the heart of city centre.

Next, step into the breathtaking Royal Portuguese Reading Room, one of the world’s most beautiful historic libraries. Surrounded by towering bookshelves, intricate architecture, and dramatic natural light, it feels almost like a cathedral dedicated to knowledge.

A short walk takes us to the legendary Confeitaria Colombo, a jewel of Rio’s Belle Époque. Beneath its stained-glass ceiling, ornate mirrors, and elegant interiors, we explore a place that has witnessed generations of Rio’s social and cultural life.

We then visit Casa Tucum, a centre dedicated to Indigenous art, culture, and resistance. Through contemporary artworks and traditional crafts, discover the diversity and resilience of Brazil’s Indigenous peoples and their enduring connection to the country’s history.

Continuing through Rua do Mercado and Praça XV, we encounter some of Rio’s most important colonial landmarks. Here, the façades and public spaces tell stories of emperors, merchants, enslaved people, revolutionaries, and the political events that helped shape Brazil as a nation.

At the Palácio Gustavo Capanema, we shift from colonial history to the birth of Brazilian modernism. Admire one of the country’s most influential architectural landmarks, where modernist principles inspired by Le Corbusier meet Brazilian artistic expression, including works by Candido Portinari and other leading artists of the period.

Our journey concludes in Cinelândia, Rio’s cultural and theatrical heart. Here, we finish at the magnificent Municipal Theatre, an architectural masterpiece inspired by the great opera houses of Europe and one of the city’s most iconic symbols of art and culture.

More than a sightseeing tour, this is an invitation to understand Rio through the places, people, ideas, and artistic movements that have shaped the city.
