What you can expect

Start your day with a visit to the Museum of the Meiji Restoration, a history museum in Kagoshima. Located by the Kōtsuki River, discover a fascinating gallery where you can learn about the restoration history.

Next, see the 8-meter-tall monument depicting an iconic, 19th-century general and leader of the Meiji Restoration at the Saigo Takamori Statue. Then, head to the Shiroyama Observatory, from which you can see the city of Kagoshima and the majestic Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima.

Afterwards, visit Sengan-en, a large Japanese garden with restaurants and sites registered as World Heritage sites, so you can experience the history and culture of Kagoshima.

In the summer, make Shirokuma Ice, a popular dessert in Kagoshima. In other seasons, enjoy a Japanese tea “matcha” ceremony. Finally, visit the Kagoshima Aquarium, a public aquarium of Kagoshima City located in Kagoshima Prefecture Kagoshima City Honkoshinmachi.
