What you can expect

Meet at the TONNARE PIAM, loc. La Punta, Carloforte - SOUTH SARDINIA.
Our tour features a role-playing game for all ages, where everyone will feel part of the storey and discover everything you didn't know about the ocean's runner: the bluefin tuna (thunnus thynnus), also known as the Atlantic bluefin tuna, and how it was fished from the 1500s to the present day. This is the itinerary for you.
In an engaging storytelling, you'll hear tales of love and sacrifice from men and women who went to work in the tuna fishery every year during the fishing season between the 19th and 20th centuries.
The tour takes place in the northernmost part of the island, with a visit to the area where, in the months between April and July, the ancient system of nets called ISOLA is placed in the sea, a work of remarkable precision, an eco-sustainable capture system, promoted by WWF International.
In the second part of our tour, we'll enter the private property of the Greco family, the sole custodians of this very important activity that is part of the Ligurian tradition first, and Carloforte today.
The tuna factory, in addition to being engaged in the eco-sustainable fishing of bluefin tuna, continues, as it did then, to produce the prized zero-km tins: fillet, belly and tarantello, the parts of the “blue fin” most appreciated by most “furesti” visitors, a dialect term for “tourists” on the island. We'll also visit the village of the tonnarotti, where men and women used to spend their free time; everything seems to have stopped in the last century.
Despite their specific interests, the three Greco brothers are still committed to ensuring that the most prized tuna, with organoleptic qualities superior to other varieties, is not missing from restaurant tables.
Do you know the difference between bluefin tuna and yellowfin tuna? No problem, we'll talk about this on the tour, as well as give you some easy recipes that will make your table look like a royal feast.
So, anémmu, your guide Natalia is waiting for you!
