Completed in 1799, Shikinaen Garden was the Ryukyu royal family’s largest villa, used for relaxation and entertaining Chinese envoys. The garden is a beautiful blend of Japanese strolling garden design and Chinese architectural elements, making it a unique Ryukyuan landscape. It is a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Ryukyu Kingdom.

Located on a cliff overlooking the ocean in Naha City, Naminoue Shrine is the top shrine among the Ryukyu Eight Shrines and is known locally as “Nanmin-san”. Visitors come for blessings for love, family safety, and safe travels. The shrine’s red-tiled roofs and Shisa statues give it a charming, tropical Okinawan atmosphere, making it a must-visit spot for both culture and photos.

Located in Nanjo City, Cape Chinen is a stunning cape overlooking the Pacific Ocean. At Chinen Cape Park, you can stroll along walking paths, relax at the red-tiled pavilion, and take in panoramic views of Kudaka and Komaka Islands against the emerald-green sea.

Kokusai-dori (International Street) – Naha, Okinawa Kokusai-dori is a 1.6 km high street in city centre Naha, known as the “Miracle Mile” for its rapid post-war development. It’s the bustling hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment, perfect for experiencing Okinawan culture and nightlife. Highlights: Shopping: Okinawan crafts, pottery, glass, clothing, and local liquor (awamori). Dining & Nightlife: Restaurants, cafes, bars, many with live traditional music. Sunday Pedestrian Zone: Street is car-free from 12 PM to 6 PM. Nearby: Heiwa Dori arcades and Makishi Public Market, the “kitchen of Okinawa.” Access: Easily reached via Yui Monorail (Kenchomae or Makishi stations).

This is an authentic Chinese-style garden located in Kume, Naha City, built to commemorate the sister-city relationship with Fuzhou City in Fujian Province, China. It opened in 1992. Constructed using materials from Fuzhou and the craftsmanship of Chinese artisans, the garden is known for its exotic atmosphere, and its nighttime illumination is especially popular with visitors.

The cave is also a protected Natural Monument, making it a must-visit spot for nature lovers and photographers.

Located in Mabuni, Itoman City, the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park honours those who died in the Battle of Okinawa and promotes world peace.
