An experience designed to be a journey, not just a day trip
This 2-day private immersive experience takes you off the beaten track in the Tunisian south to discover Berber cultures, Saharan landscapes, and iconic film locations. The pace is deliberately balanced to prioritise discovery, interaction, and authenticity.
Day 1 – From Djerba to the gateway to the Sahara: Berber villages & oases
Pick-up directly from your accommodation on Djerba. You will travel in an air-conditioned 4x4 vehicle, accompanied by a local driver-guide who is passionate about the history and traditions of southern Tunisia.
Toujane – Panoramic Views and Berber Heritage
Your first stop will be the Berber village of Toujane, perched high in the mountains. You will enjoy a walking tour of the village, learn about Berber architecture and the Berber way of life, and have time to take photos of the panoramic views.
Matmata – Cave dwellings & cinema
Drive to Matmata, famous for its cave houses.
Visit to a traditional dwelling that is still inhabited, with an explanation of local daily life.
Stop at the Sidi Driss Hotel (exterior), known for having served as a filming location for the Star Wars saga.
Lunch at a local restaurant, featuring regional cuisine.
Ksar Ghilane – Saharan Oasis
Continue to Ksar Ghilane, a secluded oasis at the gateway to the Sahara. Free time to: relax in the natural hot spring, enjoy the tranquility of the desert.
Optional activities (at additional cost): Quad-bike tour of the dunes.
At the end of the day: Traditional dinner and overnight stay in a Saharan camp, surrounded by a peaceful atmosphere under the stars.
Day 2 – Tataouine and Berber Villages: History and Traditions
Breakfast at the camp, then departure for the mountainous region of Tataouine.
Chenini or Ghomrassen (Germassa)
Visit to an iconic Berber village, known for its architecture and ancient ksour.
Explore filming locations set within a spectacular natural landscape.
Photo stop at the Chott, a salt lake with ever-changing colours.

Arrival in Tataouine:

Free time at the souk to discover local crafts and soak up the atmosphere
Lunch at a local restaurant in Tataouine.
Return to Djerba in the late afternoon and drop-off at your accommodation.
