Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

  • 2h
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is a historic shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, revered as Japan’s “God of Learning.” With over 1,100 years of history, it is a popular place to pray for academic success, attracting millions of visitors each year who write their wishes on wooden ema plaques. The shrine is famous for its sacred “Tobiume” (Flying Plum) tree and more than 6,000 plum trees that bloom beautifully in spring, along with its elegant Momoyama-style Main Hall and vibrant seasonal festivals.

Yufuincho Kawakami

  • 2h
Yufuin is a charming mountain town in Oita Prefecture on Japan’s Kyushu Island. Originally known as Yufuin, it merged with Yunohira Village in 1955 and was renamed Yufu, though the station and basin still retain the historic name Yufuin. The area is especially famous for Yufuin Onsen, one of Kyushu’s leading hot spring resorts and a popular summer retreat. Renowned for its abundant hot spring waters—ranking third in Japan for spring output—Yufuin offers visitors a relaxing escape surrounded by beautiful natural scenery.

Beppu Ropeway

  • 1h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Beppu Ropeway delivers spectacular panoramic views and stunning seasonal scenery as it carries visitors to the summit in just 10 minutes. As the largest ropeway in Kyushu, with a capacity of up to 101 passengers, it ascends to approximately 1,300 metres above sea level, where you can enjoy sweeping vistas of mountains, coastline, and vibrant landscapes that change beautifully throughout the year. Please note that ropeway tickets are not included in the tour price and must be paid in cash on site, so be sure to prepare sufficient cash in advance. In case of adverse weather conditions that prevent ropeway operations, the itinerary will be adjusted to visit Umi Jigoku instead.

Beppu Jigoku (Hells of Beppu)

  • 1h
  • Admission ticket included
Kamado Jigoku is one of the famous “Eight Hells” of Beppu, a region renowned for its dramatic hot springs, each called a Jigoku (Hell). The eight Hells include Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell), Oniishibozu Jigoku, Yama Jigoku (Mountain Hell), Kamado Jigoku (Cooking Pot Hell), Oniyama Jigoku, Shiraike Jigoku (White Pond Hell), Chinoike Jigoku (Blood Pond Hell), and Tatsumaki Jigoku (Tornado Hell). Kamado Jigoku earned its name because, centuries ago, the hot spring’s extreme heat was used to cook ritual food during the biannual festivals at the nearby Kamado Hachiman Shrine. Today, visitors can witness its intense steam and boiling waters, which can reach temperatures of up to 90°C, creating a dramatic and unforgettable natural spectacle.
