What you can expect

The Wales Coastal Way Road Trip Online Guidebook is a connected multi-day journey along one of Wales’ three national touring routes — where intimate peninsulas, sweeping bays and rugged Atlantic cliffs unfold in natural sequence.

Covering approximately 212 miles (356 km), the route is best enjoyed over 5–10 days — with flexibility to shape it across 3–10+ days. Rather than one continuous shoreline drive, the Coastal Way unfolds in three distinct chapters that reflect how west Wales is truly experienced.

1) Llŷn Peninsula
A culturally distinctive, Welsh-speaking landscape of narrow lanes, fishing villages and hidden coves. Criccieth Castle rises above the sea, Abersoch brings wide sands and sailing waters, and Aberdaron marks the historic pilgrim route towards Bardsey Island.

2) Cardigan Bay
The coastline opens into a broad sweep of beaches and harbour towns. Harlech Castle stands beneath mountain backdrops, while Barmouth, Aberystwyth and Aberaeron reflect classic seaside character. Dolphins are often spotted offshore in this wildlife-rich bay.

3) North Pembrokeshire & St Davids
The journey tightens into the dramatic cliffs of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Fishguard marks the gateway before the route concludes in St Davids, Britain’s smallest city, where cathedral towers rise above the Atlantic edge.

Each section includes:

• Scene-setting introductions that connect the journey
• Clear route progression between destinations
• Time-based guidance (what fits into 1 day, 2–3 days or longer)
• Pacing advice to suit 3–10+ day trips
• Overnight stay suggestions and base options

Pre-planned point-to-point route guidance helps you understand how the Coastal Way unfolds without overwhelming you with unnecessary options.

This is a self-guided road-trip guidebook — not a tour and not a navigation tool. It provides the structure and insight so you can plan confidently while keeping full flexibility.

Travel the full Llŷn-to-St-Davids journey or focus on individual regions to suit your timeframe. The framework is done for you; the experience remains your own.

With 12 months of access included, please choose a booking date that allows time to plan before your trip, as access begins from the date selected at checkout.
