What you can expect

Discover the Golden Buddha Mountain Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and one of China’s highest-rated scenic spots. Known as the “Oriental Alps,” this mountain is a natural wonder that stretches over ten miles in the shape of a reclining Buddha.

Experience the breathtaking sight of the mountain bathed in golden light during late summer and autumn evenings, as the setting sun illuminates the cliffs. Explore the unique “Karst Table Mountain” terrain, a high plateau carved into a sprawling mesa, which led to its UNESCO inscription in 2014.

Visit the Gufo Cave, one of the highest-elevation ancient horizontal dry caves ever discovered. Inside this 3.5-million-year-old karst cave, find thousands of Buddha statues and natural stone formations that have been revered for centuries.

In spring, witness a kingdom of rhododendrons with over 40 species blooming across the slopes. Among them stands a record-breaking “Rhododendron King”—a thousand-year-old giant tree recognised as the oldest and tallest of its kind in the world.

In summer, escape the city heat with cooler temperatures and some of the highest concentrations of negative oxygen ions in the city. In autumn, enjoy the golden hues of the mountain and taste the unique square bamboo shoots, a seasonal delicacy.

In winter, Golden Buddha Mountain becomes a snow-covered paradise with multiple ski areas, making it Chongqing's premier destination for snow sports, from skiing and snow tubing to sledding and snowmobiling.
