What you can expect

Morning: A 2,200-Year-Old Engineering Marvel

Your private driver and English-speaking guide meet you at your Chengdu hotel. A comfortable 1.5-hour drive brings you to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has been taming the Min River for over two millennia—and still functions today.

Unlike most tours that rush through in an hour, your morning is dedicated to truly understanding this ancient wonder. Your guide walks you along the riverbank, explaining how Li Bing and his son designed this system without a single dam, using only weirs, channels, and the natural flow of water. Cross the swaying Anlan Suspension Bridge, stand at the Fish Mouth Levee where the river splits in two, and visit Baopingkou, the bottle-neck channel precisely carved through solid rock.

Your guide brings the ancient engineering to life with stories of the craftsmen who built it, the dynasties it sustained, and why modern engineers still study this system today. You'll leave with a genuine appreciation for what human ingenuity achieved over two thousand years ago—without computers, cranes, or power tools.

Midday: A Taste of Sichuan

Lunch is at your own expense. Your guide will recommend an authentic local restaurant near Mount Qingcheng where you can savour classic Sichuan dishes at your own pace. Your guide is happy to assist with menu translation and ordering.

Afternoon: The Birthplace of Taoism

After lunch, arrive at Mount Qingcheng, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of China's most sacred Taoist mountains. This is where Zhang Daoling founded the Way of the Celestial Masters nearly 2,000 years ago.

Your all-inclusive experience begins with the cable car, gliding above dense forest canopy to the mountain's upper reaches. Then, board a scenic boat across the emerald Yuecheng Lake—both the cable car and boat ride are included, no extra fees.

Your guide leads you along ancient stone paths through misty woods, past weathered Taoist temples where incense drifts through quiet courtyards. Visit Shangqing Palace, the highest temple at 1,600 metres, and Tianshi Cave, where the first Taoist community was founded. Your guide shares legends of Taoist sages who meditated here and explains the philosophy of harmony between humans and nature that was born among these peaks.

Your guide ensures the pace matches your group—no rush, no rigid schedule. You'll have time to pause at viewpoints, take photos, and absorb the serene atmosphere that has drawn pilgrims for centuries.

Return to Chengdu

Your driver returns you to your Chengdu hotel. You'll carry memories of ancient engineering genius and a sacred mountain where nature and spirit meet—all experienced at your own rhythm.
