Discover the soul of Ceglie Messapica, the renowned gastronomic capital of Puglia, on a guided walking tour of gastronomy, art, and culture.
We'll start the day with an authentic Italian ritual. We will go to a local bar for a coffee and the first food tasting: the Biscotto di Ceglie. This dessert, recognised as a Slow Food Presidium, will win you over with its soft heart of almond paste, cherry marmalade, and a light glaze. Next, we'll venture into the labyrinth of whitewashed alleys in the medieval historic old town. Amid historical anecdotes about the Ducal Castle and panoramic views of the Itria Valley, your guide will reveal the secrets of this Messapian village.
The tour continues with a tribute to local talent. We will visit two artisan shops:
A pottery workshop, where you will admire how clay comes to life using ancient techniques.
A luminaria workshop, where you can discover how these iconic light sculptures that illuminate Apulian festivals and are admired all over the world are created.
We will end the morning with a typical local lunch. In a historic delicatessen, we will taste the legendary Panino Cegliese: a historic recipe that expertly combines tuna, spicy provolone, mortadella, and capers, an explosion of flavours that tells the storey of the rural life of this land.
Enjoy a complete and authentic experience that will make you feel like a real local for a day.
