Create a mark to use and treasure at KAMAKURA SIGNET. Step inside an atelier in Kamakura and carve your own stone seal with a fourth-generation engraver whose family craft dates back to 1898. See traditional tools and award-winning engravings, and learn in English how hanko connect names, identity, and meaningful moments in Japanese life. Choose one character from the available options and discover its meaning. With the craftsman's step-by-step guidance, learn how to handle the carving tool and bring your character to life in stone. No previous carving experience is needed, and all tools are provided. Then apply red seal ink and press your finished seal onto a keepsake card—the moment your carving becomes your own personal mark. Take your stone seal and card home immediately after the workshop. Our atelier welcomes each guest with good wishes for their happiness. Your seal carries the meaning you choose and the memory of making it in Kamakura: a small keepsake to cherish and use on cards, letters, or journals. A compact cultural experience to enjoy as part of your day exploring Kamakura.
