What you can expect

Get off the usual tourist trail and immerse yourself in the authentic tango heart of Buenos Aires: the Almagro area. On this walking tour, you'll discover the origins of the music that defines the city, walking the same streets that saw the birth of legends like Carlos Gardel.
We'll begin our journey in front of the imposing building of the old Mercado de Abasto, an architectural jewel, where we'll learn how tango emerged from the cultural mix of immigrants in the tenements. Then, we'll stroll through the iconic Pasaje Carlos Gardel to discover the history of the bandoneón, the instrument that gave the genre its melancholic voice.
As we move forward, you'll be transported back to the days of the old “compadritos” in historic corners, and together we'll admire the colourful Fileteado Porteño in Pasaje Zelaya, a traditional decorative art. We'll also pass by the home of Carlos Gardel himself, learning how he took tango from humble areas to stardom in Paris and Hollywood.
The experience becomes even more local as we peek into underground dance halls, where I'll reveal the secret codes of the Buenos Aires milongas, such as the famous “cabeceo” that dancers use to invite each other to the dance floor without saying a word.
Finally, we'll end this journey through time in a historic Bar Notable that opened in the late 19th century. In this bohemian and magical spot, we'll have a final chat while feeling the passion of tango in its purest and most genuine form.
