Experience one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the world on this full-day private tour along the famous Transfagarasan Road and Balea Lake.
Your journey begins with pickup from Brasov and a scenic drive towards the Southern Carpathians. As you climb higher into the mountains, the landscape transforms into dramatic alpine scenery with winding hairpin turns, steep valleys, waterfalls, and panoramic viewpoints.
When the Transfagarasan Road is open (typically July to October, weather permitting), you'll drive the full route all the way to Balea Lake, a stunning glacial lake located at over 2,000 metres above sea level. Along the way, we make several scenic stops at the most impressive viewpoints, including waterfalls and panoramic mountain overlooks. You'll have free time at the lake to explore, take photos, walk around the shore, and enjoy the spectacular setting.
When the road is closed for winter (typically October/November to June, dates vary with snow conditions), Balea Lake is still reachable — by cable car. We drive you along the accessible lower section of the road to Balea Cascada, then you ride the cable car up to Balea Lake in around 15 minutes, gliding above the frozen valleys of the Fagaras Mountains. At the top, you'll have free time to take in the winter landscape and the frozen glacial lake, a quieter and more dramatic side of this famous route. Cable car tickets (approx. 160 RON/person return) are not included in the tour price.
