What you can expect

The guided tour of Borghetto sul Mincio, a short distance from Verona, is a journey through time through the alleys of a small medieval village that has become over time a very popular destination for tourists for its unchanged historical charm, a little gem to be discovered. It starts with a guided tour through the door from which you access the heart of the old town moving on the left bank of the river to visit the Church of San Marco Evangelista, built on the remains of a Romanesque parish and ancient seat of the Templars to give assistance to pilgrims passing; today it is in neoclassical style with several frescoes inside and houses an 'ancient bell in bronze of the late fourteenth century.

Very beautiful is also the bell tower and a short walk along the characteristic wooden bridge or St Mark’s Bridge, adorned with colourful flowers and became one of the symbols of Borghetto. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the water mills on the banks of the river, dating back to 1300 of which three restored and still fully functional with their gears that deserve some souvenir photos; the other mills have been transformed or incorporated in small restaurants or shops and near the mills we also discover the corner of lovers with a railing where there are hanging hundreds of padlocks.

Exploring the various glimpses of the village with the characteristic stone houses and the alleys with the cobblestone pavement, we follow the sound of the water up to the waterfalls, where the guided tour ends and where we can admire in all its splendour the Visconti Bridge, a bridge that also serves as a fortified dam dating back to the late 1300s and wanted by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan, to defend the boundaries of the duchy.
The characteristic bridge is also connected to the Rocca and the Scaligero Castle that rises on top of the hill, whose towers are clearly visible also from the historic centre of Borghetto, a very suggestive panorama that makes the village unique.
